In Middelburg zijn er enorm veel monumenten te vinden, zoals de rijk versierde Spijkerbrug. Elke ochtend rij ik over deze brug de stad uit. Hoog tijd om eens wat meer te weten over deze bijzondere klapbrug.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

De Spijkerbrug is een ijzeren klapbrug, die gemaakt is in 1853 naar het ontwerp van G.H. Grauss. De brug verbindt de Kinderdijk met de Rouaansekaai en vind je in de haven van Middelbrug.<\/p>\n

De brug heeft nog steeds een hefmechanisme (en een brugwachters huisje) met grote witte raderen. Het leuke aan deze brug zijn de rijk versierde raderen van het hefmechanisme en de oude lantaarns op de brugpijlers. En wil je helemaal het totaal pakketje: de brug gaat nog regelmatig open voor de binnenvarende bootjes.<\/p>\n
